The program that allows a parent and grandparent to come to Canada as a long-term visitor is called the Super Visa Program. Therefore, successful applicants will not be required to renew their visitor entry every six months, as they will be granted a multiple-entry visitor visa valid for two years at a time with expiration date up to ten years. It can be applied online or on paper to get a parent and grandparent super visa. There are also explicit requirements that you are required to meet to be capable of applying.
In order to apply for the parent and grandparent super visa, you are required to be:
- Allowed to enter Canada and meet certain other conditions
- The parent or grandparent of a permanent resident of Canada or a Canadian citizen


Based on individual circumstances, your parents or grandparents may be eligible for a multiple-entry visa for up to 10 years. With the parent and grandparent super visa, qualified parents and grandparents can visit family in Canada for up to 2 years without the need to renew their status.
Immigration officers consider quite a few things prior to they make their mind if you can come to Canada. You are required to be a genuine visitor to Canada who will leave at the end of your visit. An officer will dwell on the following factors when you apply:
- Invitation letter from host
- Have valid Canadian medical insurance coverage for at least 1 year
- Provide a written statement from that child or grandchild that he or she will provide you with financial support
- Demonstrate that your child or grandchild in Canada meets a minimum income threshold
- Have an immigration medical exam
- The political and economic stability of your home country in general
- The purpose of your visit
- Your ties to your home country
